*Grand Prize Winner
"Let's see. I would make the "perfect" Perfectly Petite Model of 2005, neither by virtue of my exceptional charm, or razor-sharp wit, nor on account of my stunning features and uncanny resemblance to Naomi Cambell. (However, if that were the criteria, of course I'd have it hands down!) In our society of extreme superficiality, however, it is evident something more is needed. The question arises, just what is the true essence of beauty, and have we as a culture lost sight of what is truly lovely and worthy of our affections? I rejoice in the honor of an opportunity such as this, and perceive it as a vehicle for sharing what, to me, the nature of beauty truly is. As a model, one should reflect the beauty that is within. Rather than promoting an unrealistic standard of what attractive should be, a model should shine forth her own uniqueness and express the individuality of God's creation. As Ralph Waldo Emerson so eloquently phrased it, "Though we travel the world over to find beauty, we must carry it with us or we find it not." In ending, it suffices to say; true beauty is found within a loving heart and imperfection."

Elizabeth Mattingly
Minnesota
  Runner Up Semi Finalist Winner
"Requesting perfection is an unrealistic goal for me. At the age of 12, I was diagnosed with the skin disease, Psoriasis, it covered by skin from head to toe. I struggled to find my beauty at that crucial age of self- awareness. For two years I fought off not only the disease but also a hatred of my body. My spirituality and strength are the reasons I can smile today. I researched this disease and my findings told me I was born with a liver that could not fulfill it's purpose. I changed my life. I was no longer that little girl who could eat "cheeze it's" everyday and not worry about it. I learned to manage my stress loads and control my depression. I am proud to say that I conquered the only thing that has ever conquered me. I love my body for what it is, as Leonard Cohen sings, "There is a crack, a crack in everything, thats how the light gets in." In conclusion, I believe that if you give me this chance to shine, I in return, can reach out and inspire other young women struggling with their own self-image as I once was, to look deeper for their unique beauty. Self respect, intelligence and love for one self is all a woman needs to be perfect."
